Introduction

Hi and Hello there!
          We are accounting students from the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University of Malaya want to share with all of you about our exciting social engagement project!
Social Engagement is a university course that has introduced to encourage the students to play their role as volunteers to treat the society. Social engagement is the social involvement of someone in society or community. We, as students of University of Malaya, were required to complete this course by planning and organizing a 30-hour social programme including activities, interaction and social exchange. 


             This subject creates awareness among the students to be a responsible and well-mannered person to the social and environment as well. Social engagement allows the students to collaborate or conduct any activities which can contribute to the social and environment. Together we feeds off an adrenaline high of giving back to ensure that we remain well-grounded, empathetic and active citizens. Social engagementis implemented for UM to give back to society with the aim of exchanging knowledge and enabling learning for the benefit of society.

In order to benefit from the desired learning process and outcomes through this course, we chose to conduct our social engagement program at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Selangor (SKPK), Shah Alam. Our hope is that we can contribute and give maximum values to ensure that this programme achieve its mission by collaborating with this organization. AT first, we have two choices of location which is SKPK Shah Alam or Rumah Kasih Harmoni but after some analysis being made, we decide to go to SKPK Shah Alam because we can contribute a lot to the special students there.

The organizing committees which is our group members has decided to name this project as “UM Cares, enhancing humanity.” This name is suggested as it shows that University of Malaya cares for the society by introducing the course– Social Engagement as a compulsory subject for the students in University of Malaya. The aim of this subject is not only to promote students’ responsibility to the social and environment but also to ‘enhance humanity’ by cultivating students’ compassion towards the needy at the same time. We as students of University of Malaya would like to show our humanity to the society, hence, we would like hold this social engagement project as a chance to create nations’ sympathy towards the exceptional children.
